PASSIVE OUTDOOR SCHOOL

SPRING 2019

The goal of this outdoor school was to utilize passive strategies and focus on the relationship between learning and the natural environment. I chose to separate my buildings based on their programmatic function, which included a lobby, indoor and outdoor classrooms, and lodging. This created emphasis on the in-between space, or rather, the outside walkways that connected the individuals to the wildlife refuge. The passive strategies allowed the building to do some of the teaching, showing the students how rainwater, sun exposure, and weather can be utilized as architectural elements.
